The Casa das Camélias was a challenging project for TRAMA arquitetos, due to the characteristics of the plot - namely its size and morphology.
The main goal was to create a volume that would stand out in its surroundings, which are otherwise unremarkable, while at the same time fitting into a naturally irregular site with a steep slope.
As the plot consisted of two very narrow lots, the concept focused on developing a unified project for two semi-detached houses, giving the impression of a single home.
With this guiding principle, the positioning of the building was carefully designed to strike a balanced relationship between the ground levels and the ceiling height of the lower floor. To make the most of the terrain and its sun exposure, both the social and private areas were placed exclusively on the upper floor. Small openings were designed to allow natural light to enter various rooms, creating a precise balance between interior and exterior spaces.
This project clearly reflects TRAMA arquitetos’ design philosophy, where materiality reinforces the intended architectural expression. In this case, the combination of different textures—exposed concrete, wood, and metal—alongside the surrounding greenery, provides visual comfort and ensures integration with the landscape.
