PORMINHO

Developing an industrial project is a highly demanding challenge, particularly in terms of its integration into the urban fabric and the relationship it maintains with its immediate surroundings.

In this specific case, as it involved an expansion on a “valley-shaped” plot intersected by a watercourse, where the new building would be disconnected from the existing structure, one of the greatest challenges was to establish a new program that would ensure connectivity while accommodating the relocation of the entire administrative area to the new unit.

Throughout the process, numerous working meetings were held with the client and the engineering teams involved, with coordination between all parties being crucial to achieving the established goals.

The industrial warehouse was designed to meet all the client’s requirements, particularly ensuring a functional connection to the existing facility. To overcome the issues posed by the site’s topography and the watercourse, the solution involved creating a “bridge” between the existing building and the new one.

One of the main goals of the project was to highlight the volume designated for the administrative area in relation to the warehouse, in order to establish a functional hierarchy and properly address the scale between the two volumes.

Regarding form and materiality, the administrative volume features a granite base in a yellow hue, with a black composite panel used on the upper volume. This material choice allowed the volume to stand out from the warehouse while maintaining harmony with the surrounding landscape.
